If you know me well, you know I absolutely love to sleep.  As my life can be quite hectic, I aim to stick to my ritual of going to bed early and waking up early.  The quality of my sleep is so critical to how I perform the next day.

Many of you know that I received a new mattress, pillows and bed frame from Endy and have been sharing my experience since the initial unboxing of the product.  I wanted to share a more detailed review as I’ve now been sleeping on my Endy Mattress for over 100 nights.

Ease of Assembly

I selected the California King mattress, pillows and Platform Bed Frame.  When the boxes were delivered to my door, I was certain the they must have put the incorrect size in the boxes as the packaging was so compact – it looked like a twin size.  To my surprise, it was exactly what I selected.  The set up of the frame and mattress was so easy that my 9 year old son helped out with no problem.  Part of this was his eagerness to jump on the mattress like a trampoline! All we needed to do was open the box and unroll the mattress, and I was ready for my first night’s sleep!

Just the Right Firmness

I had been sleeping on an expensive pillow-top mattress from Sleep Country for years.  I remember that I bought this mattress because of the comfort I felt in the store when I laid down on it to test it out.  Over the years, I began to realize that it wasn’t the right mattress for me.  I began waking up with a stiff back which I tried to ignore for quite some time.  When I received my Endy Mattress, I felt that I could lie down on it without completely sinking in.  This has lasted my entire experience thus far!   My Endy has just the right amount of firmness and supports my body while still being comfortable.  I no longer wake up with a stiff back, which translates to a better sleep and a better mood the next day!

Zero Motion Transfer

When I’m sleeping, I am very sensitive to light, sound and movement.  My 9 year old son has an unstoppable amount of energy. -I guess he probably got that from me…but it occasionally backfires on me!  When he decides to ‘sleep over’ in my room instead of his own, I no longer feel him tossing and turning during the night .This is thanks to the open air cells in my Endy Mattress working like shock absorbers, to eliminate any motion transfer. This is SO great, although, my son still occasionally ends up horizontal with his feet in my rib cage!

Cooling Effect

It’s been proven that sleeping in a dark, cool room equates to better sleep.  When I sleep, my body tends to heat up like a furnace, and has previously caused me to have.  terrible sleeps.   What I love about this temperature-neutral mattress is that it made using an open air cell structure Comfort Foam that is breathable and releases heat faster than traditional memory foam, creating a cooling effect.

Customizable Pillows

Just like headphones, I’ve gone through so many pillows in the past and have probably spent a small fortune trying to find the perfect one!  I’m a side sleeper and require just the right size and firmness to support my head and neck for a comfortable sleep.  The Endy Customizable Pillow has been a game changer.  These adjustable pillows allow you to remove the shredded memory foam filling from the inside to create the perfect size and firmness you need based on your sleeping habits.

Thanks to my Endy Mattress, I am now consistently getting a good night’s sleep and waking up feeling well-rested. There are several factors that play into why attaining sound sleep on a consistent basis is very important to your overall health and productivity.

Impact of poor sleep

Not getting enough rest reduces insulin sensitivity, increases risk of weight gain and even the risk of developing diabetes. Growth hormone levels drop, making your body less efficient at muscle repair and recovery. The body’s hunger hormones levels also change, making you more ravenous. Additionally, cortisol levels also rise, affecting blood sugar, bone and muscle, healing, metabolism and more.

3 Ss for a Better Sleep

Sleep is one of the most essential components to your overall health, and exercise can play an integral role in improving sleep (and vice versa).

  1. Schedule & Personalize Exercise Time – Make a point to schedule at least 30min of moderate to vigorous exercise 5x/week (150min). To increase program adherence, aim to schedule workout times to fit within your lifestyle and at a time when you have the most energy during the day.
  1. Stick with it – Studies show consistency and a longer term/lifestyle approach is needed to reap the benefits and see significant results on your sleep.
  1. Strength, Stamina, Stretch –  Incorporating strength training, cardiovascular conditioning and stretching is a great approach to promote deep restorative sleep.  Strength training aids in the body’s hormone balance and improves both falling asleep easier and overall sleep quality. Cardiovascular exercise improves circulation to the brain, calming the nervous system and improving deep (slow wave) sleep while helping reduce stress & anxiety.  Incorporating some light stretching before bed can help relax the peripheral nervous system, helping relax the muscles and calm the body.

You have to treat sleep like it is a component of your training regimen.  Ritualize your bedtime routine.  Tech down at least 30min before bed, ensure your bedroom remains cool and dark and invest in a quality mattress.  The bottom line when it comes to sleep is take it serious and set yourself up for restful nights to help improve your overall health, energy and performance.
